How to register your cat

There are two issues that you need to establish before you register your cat. The first issue is whether or not your cat has been registered in another registry.  We recognize the registration information from most of the large breed registries, but you should check with us first to make sure. Send in a copy of that registration certificate, and/or a copy of their pedigree. Most other registration certificates do not include all of the information we require to properly register your cat.

That is where the pedigree information comes into play.  Most pedigrees include all of the required information that we will need to register your cat. So if your cat has been already registered, then we can probably register your cat without any problems. Also if all of the information about your registration is exactly the same as on those forms, then you probably do not have to fill out all the paperwork.  However, our rules require that if it is is not exactly the same, that you go here (TCA, Inc. Cat Registration Application) and get the proper forms and fill them out to be sent in with your other registration information.

If your cat has not been registered with another Cat Registering body, then you have a little more work to do. Our registry is unique in how we established our three levels of proving the representation of a breed.  Please visit our TCA Registry Manual and read how we established the most accurate way of determining your cats' type above and beyond any other registry.

We provide a form (TCA, Inc. Cat Registration Application) with a pedigree format for you to fill in for registering your cat. If your cat is breedable, we also require that you provide us with three photos of your cat.  This is to provide documented proof  that your cat is representative of the breed that you are registering under. Since there are no conclusive DNA tests available or affordable to increase this accuracy, we must request this for all breedable cats that come in as Foundation Stock cats. Suggestions can be found at Registration Photos to give you some advice on how to take pictures that we need for Foundation Stock registration.

Once you have sent us the required information, once we receive the paperwork, it typically takes no more than one week before we send the registration papers back to you.  Once we get it to the post office, then it is up to he USPO to do the rest.
